Agriplex summer programs underway, Nature Day Camp, Touring Farms for Kids returns in June

Before the popular Nature Day Camp and Touring Farm for Kids returns in June, the North Alabama Agriplex has a packed slate of May events and programs. Classes have already begun, but there are plenty of offerings still open for signing up.
On Wednesday, May 7, from 12-1 p.m., Kay Allbritton will share tips for healthy adaptations in body and homes by incorporating small changes in everyday activities. The Lunch & Learn – Making Small Changes for Your Health, Healthy Swaps, will navigate these adjustments by using items/foods that gardeners already have access to and basic knowledge of how they work. Cost $10 per person includes program and light lunch.
Each month, storytime is centered around a book by renowned author illustrator, Jan Brett. On Friday, May 9, from 10-11 a.m., the Little Farmers storytime “Mossy” will include stations, craft and snacks. Cost is $8 per child, max $16 per family.
On Saturday, May 10, from 9-10:30 a.m., Farm Kids Club will host Talley-Ho Farms at the Agriplex. The Talley Family is coming to Tally Ho Street with a crew of unique animals. Cost is $15 per child, max $30 per family.
On Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m., the program Military Veteran & Beginning Farmer – Resources for Beginning Farmers, will provide information from USDA agencies, Extension, RC&D and Grant Opportunities.
JUNE
Nature Day Camp returns Tuesday, June 3 through Wednesday, June 4, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Campers will explore the wonders of nature enjoying hands-on activities, wildlife discovery and a deeper connection with the outdoors. Cost is $60 per child.
Lunch & Learn – Life Skills for Adults: Rules of the Road with Investing will feature Katie E Brown, CFP®|CRPC™ with Edward Jones sharing 10 rules for smart investing and retirement planning. Class is Wednesday, June 4, from 12-1 p.m. Cost is $10 per person and includes light lunch.
Ever wonder about the white school house next door to the Agriplex? Here is your chance to learn about the building and experience schooling in the early 1900’s. Join Kay Callan and other representatives from our Cullman schools, Thursday, June 5, from 6-8 p.m., as they dress in period costumes to step back in time for the free Heritage Skills – Red Hills School House program. No registration is required.
The Preschool & Elementary Garden Camp for ages 3-5 (with adult) and ages 6-11, will be Monday, June 9 through Friday, June 13 from 9-11 a.m. Grow, learn and dig into nature at the Agriplex. Kids will enjoy planting, harvesting and discovering the joys of gardening. Take home goodies from the garden and art projects daily. Cost is $60 per child.
Children ages 7 to 13, can experience farm life up close when Cullman Touring Farms for Kids returns Tuesday, June 17 through Wednesday, June 18. From 8 a.m.-3 p.m., students will explore local farms, meet animals and learn where food comes from on this annual tour. Local food, lunch and snacks provided. Paying parents are welcome to attend. Cost is $60 per person.
The Thursday, June 19, Military Veteran & Beginning Farmer program will be at 6 p.m. and focus on Financial Planning. Find the profit potential in successful record keeping, enterprise budgets and marketing. Planning for Retirement and Insurance Needs of Farmers with Katie Brown.
June closes out with Living Landscapes – Native Plant Landscaping: Lawn to Prairie, Thursday, June 26, from 6-5 p.m. Holt Akers-Campbell, Regional Extension Agent, will speak on installing and maintaining native plant grasslands in landscaping. Native grasses will be available for purchase and seed for free. Cost is $15 per person.
