Addison’s championship hopes are alive and well.
The No. 3 Bulldogs continued their winning ways Thursday, sweeping Lynn (12-2 and 11-6) in a home quarterfinal series to advance in the Class 1A playoffs.
Coach Lee Williams’ squad will play No. 2 Hackleburg or South Lamar in the semifinals next week. It’s the program first semifinal appearance since the 1995 season.
Addison (27-9) struck for four first-inning runs — collecting three of its four total hits in that tone-setting frame — during a wire-to-wire victory in the opener.
The Bulldogs, who later recorded seven runs in the fourth inning, pulled away by taking advantage of eight walks and several passed balls by the Bears.
Lynn (20-12) attempted to make life difficult for the home team in the nightcap, crafting a 6-2 lead after three frames.
Addison, however, got a run back in the fourth inning on a Carter Pratt sacrifice fly and later tied the clash with a three-run fifth that was highlighted by Stone Talley’s two-run homer and Kaden Dyson’s RBI single.
Jed Wilkins then put his team over the top, belting a two-run blast in the sixth inning to give the Bulldogs an 8-6 lead. Addison added three additional runs in the frame without the courtesy of a hit to extend its cushion.
The Bears didn’t go quietly, loading the bases in the seventh inning. Stone Talley, though, came on in relief and notched the final two outs to end the threat.
