Walking tours return in April

- Ben South leads walking tour of downtown Cullman outside the Cullman County Museum in 2018.
With April just around the corner, Cullman will again take part in a statewide spring tradition, as locals and out-of-towners alike lace up for weekly walking tours of the city’s historic areas on Saturdays all month long.
Beginning Saturday, April 6 and continuing each weekend throughout the month, local guides will lead the free tours using the Cullman County Museum (211 2nd Avenue NE in Cullman) as each outing’s starting point. Each week’s tour begins at 10 a.m., and as always, there’s no cost to join in.
Hosted in partnership with the Alabama Tourism Department, the tours offer insights into the local histories of cities that participate, with this year’s statewide lineup including Cullman and 26 other locations taking part, from points north of the Tennessee River all the way to the Gulf coast.
Cullman’s tours are led by a rotating roster of local history buffs, each of whom will select an itinerary that covers slightly different ground each week. Tours typically last at least an hour, though if the weather’s nice and the guests are energized, they can often stretch into a second hour of local exploration.
Visit the Alabama Tourism Department’s April Walking Tours website (alabama.travel/trail-details/april-walking-tours) for more information on all the statewide tours taking place next month. The tours will cover four Saturdays, with dates set for April 6, 13, 20 and 27.
