If the bright lights of Birmingham’s Legacy Arena affected Good Hope’s varsity girls at all, it certainly didn’t show.

Just ask No. 2 Prattville Christian, which felt the full fury of the top-ranked Raiders in Tuesday’s Class 4A semifinal.

Bailey Tetro delivered a game-high 20 points, Ava McSwain pitched in 16 and Good Hope put together a dominant performance against the defending state champions en route to a 59-29 victory.

The Raiders, who racked up 27 points off 20 Prattville Christian turnovers, won their 18th straight game to improve to 32-2 and will play for the program’s first-ever state title Friday at 4 p.m.

“To sit back and watch these girls chase this dream for four years and come up on this stage and play how they are capable of playing … I feel like I’ve got the best seat in the house,” Good Hope coach Justin Aby said.

As they’ve done all season long, the Red and White wasted no time setting the tone.

Aby’s squad turned the Panthers over eight times and knocked down five 3-pointers — four different Raiders tickled the twine from deep — to construct a 21-10 lead following the opening period. Good Hope continued to keep its foot on the gas from there, closing out the first half on an 8-0 run to surge ahead by 20 at the break.

“Honestly, I go into a game expecting a good first half from us,” Bailey Tetro said. “We’ve done it almost every time so far. When we have a good start I think it relaxes us — I know it relaxes me and helps me get into a groove. If we’re coming out with energy, looking for each other, supporting each other, passing the ball to open girls, getting it to our shooters — then I think we are going to have a good game.”

Bailey’s sister, Heather, echoed those sentiments, crediting her teammates for making things easier.

“It’s shocking if we come out to a slow start. Ivey (Maddox) is a great shooter — you pass it to her and expect it to go in. Ava, same thing with her, too. To be able to come out here and show everybody what we’re all about is awesome.”

The final 16 minutes were a mere formality for the Raiders, who led by as many as 32 points and cleared their bench at the 3:29 mark of the fourth quarter.

Heather Tetro finished with nine points, while Maddox (five), Charly Johnson (five), Jordan Sanders (two) and Lucie Adams (two) also notched buckets. Johnson (eight rebounds), Heather Tetro (five assists) and Maddox (five steals) led the team in other categories as well.

“These girls are really good at playing basketball,” Aby said.

Avery Rogers, meanwhile, paced Prattville Christian (27-8) with 14 points. The Panthers shot 32 percent and produced their lowest scoring output of the season.

Good Hope will now attempt to punctuate its season with a Blue Map trophy on Friday.

To do so, it’ll need to beat the winner of No. 5 Anniston and T.R. Miller — one last dance for a close-knit group.

And while that moment will no doubt be bittersweet, the Tetros have spent the better part of five years preparing themselves for such an opportunity.

After all, what could be better than becoming state champions?

“This is just awesome, especially with the group of girls I get to experience this with,” Bailey Tetro said. “That’s going to drive us more to play our hearts out one last time together on the court. There’s already been tears about this, but it’s inevitable — it will be our last game. But I’m glad it’s Friday and not any sooner.”

Added Heather Tetro, “These are memories and you’re going to have memories forever. I’m not always going to be playing for Good Hope, but I’ll always remember the time we played for a state title — no matter which way it goes.”
