ALL-STATE BOYS BASKETBALL: Holly Pond’s Chaney snags 1st-team accolades; Hanceville’s Chandler notches Coach of the Year honor; Good Hope’s Maddox earns 2nd-team status

Holly Pond’s Kyler Chaney earned first-team accolades in Class 3A, while Hanceville’s Stephen Chandler was named 3A Coach of the Year when the Alabama Sports Writers Association released the 2019-20 All-State boys basketball teams on Saturday night.
Good Hope’s Cole Maddox rounded out the local flavor with a second-team selection in 4A.
Chaney averaged a double-double for the Broncos in a dominant senior campaign.
He was a second-team pick in 2018-19 as well as The Times’ All-Area Player of the Year.
Chandler, meanwhile, guided the Bulldogs to the Final Four for the first time since 1999.
Hanceville (18-13) also won the 3A, Area 12 Tournament and 3A Northeast Regional Tournament.
The All-State basketball teams are decided by the ASWA’s prep committee, which chooses from a list of impressive athletes spanning seven classifications across the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). The Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) is also part of the selection process.
Player of the Year finalists — boys and girls — will be unveiled on March 21.
