Cullman High School held its annual baseball camp at Bill Shelton Field on Tuesday — and plenty of future stars honed their skills at the fun-filled get-together.

More than 60 kids attended this year’s camp, which was conducted by current and former Bearcat players, as well as the Black and Gold coaching staff.

Campers participated in a variety of drills that focused on the fundamentals of the game.

The Bearcats, who recently claimed their fifth state title, have routinely produced collegiate — and even professional — talent from within the program.

Cullman coach Brent Patterson was pleased with this year’s turnout.

“It’s something we look forward to every year,” he said. “We get to meet some kids. We get to see a lot of them on the baseball field for the first time since last year. We get to watch them grow. And just thinking about the guys we have in the program now — we watched those guys come through this camp just like these kids are today.

“You start developing relationships, and it’s a fun way to give back. Literally thousands of people invest in our program across the community. We’re looking to do a little more in the future. These kids are coming out, seeing if we can help them a little bit and, more than anything, having fun.”
