PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Lady Eagles finish 2nd at Jesse Owens Classic

Cold Springs’ girls cross country team finished second in the green division at Saturday’s Jesse Owens Classic.

Ava Akridge (12th), Reagan Parris (21st), Ashleigh White (30th), Alyssa Jackson (44th) and Sadie Terry (51st) delivered the top times for the Lady Eagles in the 26-team field.

Westminster Christian (123) edged Cold Springs (137) for the overall title.

St. Bernard (fifth) and Holly Pond (10th) also secured strong performances.

The Lady Saints were led by Emma Powell (13th), Chloe Tumbo (14th), Claire Sanders (22nd), Aria McMillan (64th) and Sara Barck (90th).

Camilla Chambers recorded a fourth-place effort to spearhead the Lady Broncos, who were aided by Breanna Tankersley (50th), Madison Frnka (73rd), Abigail Kusz (89th) and Emma Grace Daniel (97th).

Cullman’s girls, meanwhile, finished sixth out of 42 teams in the silver division. Bernarda Tizapa (21st), Jennifer Aviles (26th), Ivy Edge (33rd), Delly Kelly (49th) and Tess Heaton (114th) notched the speediest times.

Cold Springs’ boys — Jonathan Collett (42nd), Trentan Williams (49th), Seth Walker (53rd), Cole Akridge (57th) and Will Grimmett (68th) — competed in the bronze division, placing sixth out of 41 teams.

St. Bernard’s boys came in fourth place in the green division (30 teams) behind fine efforts from Joseph Arriaga (22nd), Joey McCarthy (24th), Caleb Guthery (39th), David DeJesus (56th) and Francis Mami (64th).

Cullman’s Will Thompson (22nd — gold division) and Holly Pond’s Zackery Reynolds (46th — green division) racked up the top performances for their respective squads during the 20th annual event as well.
