CPD search near West Point yields two drug arrests

A Cullman Police Department search of a west Cullman County home Tuesday resulted in the alleged recovery of methamphetamine and the arrest of two West Point residents.

Megan Nail James, 33, was charged with a single count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, along with a single count of second degree unlawful possession of marijuana and a single count of second degree unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.  

Cullman Police Sgts. Chris Thomason, Scott Sanford, Eric Cole and officers Trey Higginbotham, Cole Kelley and Dustin Colburn executed a search warrant at the residence, located along County Road 1192 just east of Missionary Grove Road. 

“During a search of the residence, officers recovered approximately 27 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana and various items of drug paraphernalia,” the police department said in a release.

A second person at the residence, 41 year-old Christopher Adam Barnett, was also arrested and charged with a single count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.  

“Barnett also had multiple outstanding warrants with other agencies at the time of his arrest,” the department noted.

Both suspects were booked into the Cullman County Detention Center. James is is being held on a $33,000 bond; Barnett’s bond has been set at $4,000.
