“They had badges on and carried flashlights, but no firearms,” Culpepper said.

Police also believe Hayes and Smith were involved in another incident earlier in the day at Heritage Park where they approached and wanted to search their vehicle, Culpepper said.

Cullman Police Department Investigator Scott Sanford and Officer Philip Botelho arrested Hayes and Smith after police were called to Veigl Village during the domestic dispute, Culpepper said.

Both suspects were booked into the Cullman County Detention Center.
