Roundup: Fultondale, Mortimer Jordan, Pinson Valley nab area wins Tuesday

Fultondale 59, Holy Family 52

The Fultondale boys basketball team went for a key Class 3A, Area 8 win over Holy Family Catholic on Tuesday night. On its home floor, Fultondale went past the Tornadoes, 59-52.

Tyme Andrews continued his stellar play with a 27-point outburst for the Wildcats. Roosevelt Banks provided eight points and 12 boards while Jayson Jones and Ga’Quincy McKinstry each added seven points for Fultondale. Spearheading the offense was Derrick Grice, who dished out 10 assists.

Mortimer Jordan 51, Corner 49

Mortimer Jordan improved to 2-0 in Class 5A, Area 11 play with a, 51-49, win over No. 10 Corner on Tuesday night.

The game went back and forth down the stretch, but Blue Devils’ sophomore Noah Lewis made both ends of a one-and-one, increasing the lead to 51-47 with only nine seconds remaining.

Justin Anderson led Mortimer Jordan with 12 points as Patrick Burkett added 10 more. Justin Thomas went up for a team-best eight rebounds.

The Blue Devils get back to area play on Friday night when Springville visits.

Pinson Valley 58, Gardendale 35

Under first-year head coach Cedric Lane, Pinson Valley took care of business on Tuesday night with a, 58-35, road win at Gardendale.

The win improved the Indians to 2-0 in Class 6A, Area 12 play and set the stage for a monster home game with No. 10 Clay-Chalkville on Thursday night.
