Wildcats improve to 37-4 in dual meets

The Fultondale Wildcats have won 11 of 13 dual matches since the Jefferson County tournament to improve to 37-4 this season.
The wins came over, Homewood, 46-35, Shelby County, 72-9, American Christian, 44-32, Holtville, 70-9, Shelby County again, 72-7, Brookwood, 54-19, Pinson Valley, 64-12, American Christian for a second time, 72-12, Leeds, 72-12, Cordova, 64-12 and Mortimer Jordan, 39-25.
The two losses came to 5A state power McAdory, 47-35 and 6A state power Tuscaloosa County, 33-27.
The match with Mortimer Jordan proved to be a tough come from behind win, as the Wildcats lost the 103 and 112 pound matches to fall behind.
Next the Wildcats got on the board as Cody Evans won by a tech fall at 119 pounds, 18-3. The match ended 15 seconds into the third period.
Ryan Randall then won his 125-pound match with a pin just 59 seconds into the opening period.
Kaleb Donaldson then lost a tough match at 130 pounds, 10-7.
Steven Dodgen then got the Wildcats back on the winning track with a pin in 57 seconds at 135.
Brett Pennington then won 19-5 at 140 pounds.
Jordan won the 145-pound match with a pin, but then Fultondale’s Alec Williams won by pin at 2:42 in the 152-pound match.
Jordan won the 160-pound match by tech fall, but Sam Robles won the 171-pound match for Fultondale with a pin 45 seconds in his match.
Jordan won by pin at 189 and by a 11-5 decision at 215.
Finally, Nelson won the 285-pound match for the Wildcats with a pin 44 seconds into the heavyweight match.
Coach Billy Hughes team has completed their regular season schedule and will host the 1A-4A, Section 2 tournament on Feb. 2.
The 2007 1A-4A state runners-up will enter the sectional as heavy favorites.
