Hazel Margaret Marlow Garrett

Hazel Margaret Marlow Garrett, age 82, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007 after a long illness. Mrs. Garrett was the widow of Frank L. Garrett. She is survived by her two children, STeven Frank Garrett (Nancy) of Gardendale and Winkie Colby (Tony) of Birmingham and Piseco, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Steven Scott Garrett and Stephanie Carol Garrett, both of Atlanta, Ga. and Garrett Walker Colby (Captain, U.S. Army) of Kailua, Hi; sister, Maggie Marlow Garrett of Birmingham and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Garrett was born on April 23, 1925 in Brookside to James W. Marlow and Bertha Moore Marlow. She grew up in Brookside and North Birmingham where she attended Phillips High School. She devoted her life to her family. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker and took great pride and loving interest in her grandchildren, as well as her great-nephews, Hayden and Graham Beasley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Frank Garrett, and her beloved sisters, Edith Marlow and Louise De Carlo. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the concern and dependable care provided in home by Ms. Bernice Payne, Ms. Lois Hayes, Ms. Dixie Rogers and very special thanks as well to the Comfort Care Hospice nurses in Alabaster, especially Nancy Gossett. Funeral services were held at Morgan’s @ Gardendale with interment at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
