Authorities are looking for a woman who was reported missing on July 4, whose husband was arrested after a high-speed chase that began in Pinson.

Paula Ann Worcester, 41, was reported missing by her sister, who said that Worcester’s husband was the last person to see her on June 18. Worcester lives in the 2500 block of Rose Drive in Morris.

The husband, Joseph Poe III, 41 and a Tarrant resident, was arrested Tuesday after leading sheriff’s deputies and police from several departments on a high-speed chase that began at the intersection of Sweeney Hollow Road and Pinson Boulevard (formerly Center Point Parkway). The chase finally ended just north of Cleveland in Blount County, when deputies there deployed spike strips near the intersection of U.S. 231 and Alabama 79.

The chase began when Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputes pulled Poe over, after the Ford F-150 pickup truck he was driving was reported as stolen. Poe first went as far south as I-20/59 and Tallapoosa Street in Tarrant, then went back north to Cleveland.

After being apprehended, Poe was questioned about his wife’s disappearance. According to Sheriff’s Sgt. Jack Self, Poe told investigators that he dropped Worcester off at her sister’s house in Hueytown on June 18.

Poe was charged with first-degree receiving stolen property, attempting to elude, reckless endangerment, third-degree receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. He is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.

Self said that detectives don’t think Poe’s chase is related to Worcester’s disappearance.

Worcester is described as being 5-foot-5 and 190 pounds,with hazel eyes and blond hair. If you knowledge of her whereabouts, call the sheriff’s office at 325-1450.
