Winners announced for annual flower show
The North End Council of Garden Clubs held its 60th annual flower show on Thursday and Friday at the Gardendale Civic Center. The theme this year was “Fashion in Bloom.”
The “Award for Horticulture Excellence” went to Stella Brown for her tall bearded iris.
The “Award for Design Excellence” went to Katie Lucus for her “Red Hat Society Design.
Other horticulture winners:
• Award of merit to Patricia Tate for her Snapdragon
• Award of merit to Margie Thomas for her Knockout Rose
• Award of merit to Stella Brown for her Tall Bearded Iris
• Grower’s Choice Award to Bettie Clark for her Rabbit’s Foot Fern
• Arboreal Award to Margie Thomas for her Japanese Maple
• Award of Merit to Margie Thomas for her white Clematis
• Award of Merit to Doris Neyman for her wildflower “Bachelor Button”
• Grower’s Choice to Diane Launius for her Geranium
Other design winners were:
• Tricolor Award went to Carolyn Wynn for her “Spring Fling” design
• Designer’s Choice Award went to Katie Lucus for her “Red Hat Society” entry
• Table Artistry Award went to Janice Thomas for her design in the “Thoroughly Modern” category
• Petite Award went to Kay Sellers for her small design in the “On Safari” category
• The “Educational Top Exhibitor Award” went to Patricia Tate for her exhibit entitled “From Bloom to Perfume”
• The “Youth Top Exhibitor Award” went to the Blue Star Darlings
