Class 6A Girls Basketball Sub-Regional – No. 3 Hoover 77, Gardendale 36: Overpowering Bucs are too much for Rockets

From Staff Reports

HOOVER — After knocking off the ninth-ranked team in Class 6A in the area tournament, the Rockets found No. 3 Hoover just too much to handle, losing 77-36 Thursday night in a sub-regional playoff.

Jazmine Martin led the Buccaneers (27-5) with 15 points. She saw limited playing time, as Hoover coach Donnie Quinn played his reserves for much of the game after building up a 45-10 halftime cushion.

Taylor Powell paced the Rockets with 14 points.

Gardendale finishes its season with a record of 14 wins and 17 losses under first-year coach Ryan Griffin.

Kanesha Burch and Whitney Love each scored nine points for the Bucs, who move on to play in the Northeast Regional at Jacksonville State University next Tuesday at noon against Shades Valley.
