Local group to perform southern classic on stage
A local theater troupe will be performing a classic on the stage in upcoming weeks. The WAAY Off Broadway Theatre will present “Steel Magnolias” Nov. 10-12 and Nov. 18-20, 7 p.m. nightly, at The Wherehouse in Gardendale.
Two casts will perform. Cast one, performing Nov. 10-12, features Debbie Mitchell as Truvy, Leigh Tingle as Annelle, Marie Tingle as M’Lynn, Kelsey Domeny as Shelby, Janice Spivey as Ouiser and Celeste Phillips as Clairee.
Cast two performs on Nov. 18-20, featuring Shay Elyse Doss as Truvey, Nancy Ryce Annelle, Nancy Crowson as Ouiser and Celeste Phillips as Clairee.
Co-directors are Ed Spruill, Celeste Phillips and Janice Spivey. Judy Watson also lends her expertise to the group.
The cast has been practicing at Gardendale Presbyterian Church. Performances will be held at The Wherehouse, located at The Great American Tent Company at 3086 Decatur Hwy. in Gardendale.
The Wherehouse has been active for about a year. This is the first time this group has performed together.
Tickets are $10 each and are on sale now from any of the cast members or directors, or at the Wherehouse will-call, open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 631-2221 to order tickets.
