PREP BASEBALL: Samples tosses no-hitter, Vinemont blanks West Morgan 2-0

Deacon Samples pitched a no-hitter on Thursday night, striking out 14 batters in a dominant outing to lift Vinemont past West Morgan 2-0.

Samples cruised for most of the game, encountering his only real trouble in the third inning after walking the bases loaded — he issued five free passes in total — with two outs. The right-hander, however, punched out the next batter to end the threat.

Austin Riddle and Jarrett Friedrich earned an RBI apiece following bases-loaded walks in the fourth inning. The Eagles (2-1) recorded just two hits — Will Rhodes and Colby Miller each had singles — in the road win.

“Super proud of the boys for our performance during the game,” Samples said. “At the end of the day, it’s only our third game, and we have yet to reach our peak performance. The best mindset to have and keep close during the game is to remember consistency is always more important than perfection and, with those words, you can only get better.”
