PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Cold Springs’ Burwell leads local field at Corner Invitational

CORNER — Austin Burwell sprinted to first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.36 and also snagged respective second- and third-place results in the pole vault and 300-meter hurdles to lead Cold Springs’ boys to fourth at Thursday’s Corner Invitational.

Jared Stanley (3,200-meter run) and C.J. Lang (1,600-meter run) contributed to the runner-up finish with second-place races. Kramer Crider rounded out the Eagles’ top-three competitors with third in the 3,200-meter run. Stanley also flashed his short-distance speed with seventh in the 400-meter dash.

Hanceville’s ninth-place showing was bolstered by a second-place spot from J.K. Davis in the 800-meter run. Davis, who was also fifth in the 1,600-meter run, missed out on the win by just 19-hundredths of a second. Teammate John Smalls took third in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash.

West Point’s boys landed in 11th behind a third-place effort from Joey Riggs in the 1,600-meter run. He was also sixth in the 3,200-meter run and seventh in the 800-meter run.

Cold Springs’ girls were fifth. Ashleigh White had the squad’s top individual result with third in the 3,200-meter run. She was also fifth in the 1,600-meter run.

Hanceville’s Kaela Hall was fourth in the 400-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash.
