DANVILLE — Cold Springs’ varsity girls gave it all they had but came up just a little short in Friday night’s championship game against Brewer in the annual Lady Hawks Classic.

McKinnley Davis tied the contest for the Class 2A Eagles late, but a foul on the other end gave the 6A Patriots a pair of huge shots from the charity stripe to pull ahead for good 49-47.

“I’m so proud of my girls,” coach Tammy West said. “We almost won that thing. It was a great tournament for us. We showed a lot of improvement.”

Davis paced Cold Springs with 14 points, while teammate Emme Willoughby garnered 12. Keegan Johnson netted nine points, and Bailey West and Caitlyn Hall scored six.

The Eagles are now 6-2 on the season.

% Cold Springs 36, Decatur 33: The Eagles survived a solid test from the 6A Red Raiders to advance to Friday’s title bout.

Hall scored 15 points, while West collected 13. Willoughby was good for six, and Johnson and Rilee White, one apiece.

% West Point 54, Hartselle 53: Jeri Beasley knocked down a pair of free throws in the waning seconds to give the Warriors a slim win over the Tigers in the Lady Hawks Classic on Friday.

West Point trailed by 11 points at halftime but stormed back to take the win on the back of a 22-point showcase by Mallory Walker and 16 big points from Beasley.

Other scorers were Bailee Yearwood and Tess Hembree, six each; and Lexi Bell, four.

% Falkville 54, West Point 45: The 5A Warriors were unable to finish the tourney on a high note Friday night, dropping a consolation contest to the 2A Blue Devils.

West Point cut a 13-point, fourth-quarter deficit to just five late but came up scoreless on five straight offensive trips and were never able to get any closer.

Walker finished with 14 points to lead the Warriors (5-3). Bell was good for nine; Taylor Deese, six; Beasley, five; Lexie Burdette and Hembree, four; and Yearwood, three.

% Oneonta 45, Holly Pond 43: The Broncos finished play in this year’s Lady Hawks Classic with three straight losses, the final of those coming in a tough decision versus the Redskins.

The Green and White entered the fourth quarter tied at 37-all but secured just six points and made just one field goal in the last eight minutes of the game.

“Not a good day for the Lady Broncos,” coach Scott Adams said after the defeat. “We’ve got a lot to work on.”

Meg Gambrill notched 12 points before fouling out, and Taylor Tankersley added 10. Kaitlyn Stephens (eight points), Ruth Horton (seven) and Melissa Clingman (six) also contributed.

Adams’ squad is now 5-3 on the season.

% Brindlee Mountain 61, Holly Pond 33: Before falling to the Redskins, the Green and White were handled by the Lions in a lopsided affair.

Holly Pond trailed 25-7 after the first frame and weren’t able to recover.

Horton paced the Broncos with four 3’s and 18 points, while Gambrill added eight points. Clingman and Stephens both had three points and Tankersley, one.

% Fairview 51, Rogers 37: The Aggies led the Pirates down the plank and later fell to Hartselle to wrap up a two-day stay at the Lady Hawks Classic.

Stats for Fairview were unknown.

% Sulligent 52, Good Hope 47: Celest Whisenant notched 24 points, but the Raiders ran into foul trouble in overtime to bow out at the Haleyville Thanksgiving Tournament Friday.

Kaylee Maddox scored 14 points for Good Hope. Sadie Abbott added four, Kate Kent contributed three and Jessica King had two.
