Danielle Cater: New year brings pretty big changes
Life as a single mom of two little girls has been nothing shy of amazing. I wouldn’t trade anything for the past two years of my life. It sure hasn’t been easy, but it’s surprising how strong we are when we have no other options.
I’m reflecting over my single years because they are quickly coming to an end.
After swearing off marriage and all of the troubles that accompany it, I have had to revisit my thoughts on the subject and have had quite the heart change.
You see, God put this amazing man in my life and he has changed everything about what I thought I had figured out about love and relationships.
No longer am I horrified of the sound of the wedding march or the thought of a ring on my third finger. Before him, the wedding march sounded more like a funeral procession in my book. But true love is quite different than anything I’ve ever experienced before and I’m happy to say that by the time you read this, I will be married to the love of my life.
The first time we ever actually met was while I was working for the newspaper, and after a few years, we met again at our church, this time with completely different life lessons learned and looking for whatever life had in store for us.
I can tell you that I’ve been married and I’ve been single, and the Bible is pretty clear on the fact that if you can stay single, then go for it. You’ll have fewer problems in life, according to the Good Book. But if the single life isn’t working out for you, then the Bible also says that marriage is an honorable thing, so after being on both sides of the fence, I’ve decided that marriage is definitely the route I’m choosing to take and I’m taking it with my best friend.
Our little family will double in size and with more family comes more love, so we are looking forward to all of the fun, laughter and excitement that comes along with blending two families into one, happy new beginning.
We will have two 4-year-old and two 5-year-old little girls running around our house, and that is really what will make our house a home. I’m sure we will never be short on funny stories to tell about how our lives develop from this point forward.
So after a small wedding ceremony in Mentone with only parents and grandparents in attendance, we are going to the beach for a few days of quiet before we jump into the real world of being married with children.
Life is good, but life is great when you have someone to share it with. Nothing is better than having the perfect person beside you to lean on when times get tough, to laugh with when times are funny and to cry with when times are rough. I hope to be a good wife to him and love and support him in any way I can.
I’m kicking off the new year in a whole new way and I’m expecting bigger and better things in the future because
the future looks so bright through my eyes. I won’t take my family for granted because I see that they are a blessing from above, and when God puts a blessing in your life, it’s your job to protect it and take care of it.
