Weaving garbage truck leads to two arrests

Two Dora men were arrested on Friday when Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies pulled over a garbage truck that was reportedly being driven recklessly on Mt. Olive Road.

Deputies also found an active methamphetamine lab inside the truck.

Jeffrey Palmer, 34, and Lesley Jay Carver, 35, were arrested at about 4:30 p.m. Friday on drug-related and other charges after a one-mile chase.

The incident ended in the 6000 block of Mt. Olive Road after the garbage truck reached a top speed of about 50 miles per hour, according to a police report.

Palmer, the driver, was reportedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Carver, the passenger, was also ordered out of the truck.

When deputies checked the inside of the vehicle, they found a plastic soda bottle containing an active methamphetamine cook, according to the report. The bottle was reportedly swollen from the pressure of the chemical reaction.

Deputies moved to a safe distance and called in the sheriff’s office narcotics unit. A hazardous materials crew cleaned up the cook.

Palmer was arrested on charges of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, $1,000,000 bond; attempt to elude, $6,000 bond; improper lane usage, $500 bond; driving while license revoked, $500 bond.

Carver was arrested on charges of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, $1,000,000 bond.

Both suspects were still in custody on Monday.
