Storms to arrive in late afternoon, evening
A storm system is nearing Alabama and should arrive along the Interstate 65 corridor from 4-6 p.m.
The National Weather Service is predicting multiple thunderstorms, many of them strong to potentially severe, in two rounds across the area.
“At this time, the Weather Service is uncertain if the first round or second will be the strongest. It’s just hard to tell at this time,” said Scott McDonald, assistant director of the Cullman County Emergency Management Agency.
In addition to heavy rain, measuring 1 to 2 inches, the main concern remains winds gusting at 60 to 70 miles per hour during the storms.
Flash flooding is also possible at times, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, McDonald said.
The second wave of storms could start between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., possibly later.
The area is likely to go under a tornado watch as the front makes its way into Alabama.
