Search for missing boater stopped by weather conditions
Thursday marked a week since a tragic boat crash left one passenger missing and several others injured.
Kelsey Nicole Starling, 26, of Birmingham, was a passenger on a 2012 Mastercraft wakeboard boat involved in the two-vessel crash at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday night. The driver of the boat, William Jackson Fite, 23, of Decatur, was charged with boating under the influence.
Weather conditions stopped the search Thursday as a severe thunderstorm moved through the area.
Personnel from Colbert County were involved Thursday running sonar and an underwater camera. Winston County EMA and Alabama Law Enforcement’s Marine Patrol were assisting as well, said Sgt. Chad Pate of the Marine Patrol.
The search has been in the Rock Creek area of Smith Lake with depths of 160 feet and more.
