Organizers of efforts to open a new library in Warrior are moving forward in their efforts.

They are currently putting out a call for individuals and businesses to reserve a booth for an arts and craft show on Oct. 12.

The show will be held at the former National Guard armory, which is slowly being renovated into a new library facility as the board gathers grants and donations.

The facility will be called the Regional Library and Arts Center, a name that reflects its expanded mission to include the arts.

An arts council has been formed, and recently held its first meeting to get organized and set a course for the future.

In order to raise funds to help move the project forward, the library holds a book sale every Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the future library on Cane Creek Road. The books are donated, and shoppers can buy a grocery bag full of books for $5.

Janie McCallie, a member of the library foundation board, said the book sales have netted almost $2,000 in the past four months.

“One hundred percent of all proceeds goes to the new library,” McCallie said.

Also, the foundation’s grant writer has recently submitted a new grant proposal that could result in more funds for the project.

“It’s a more positive outlook now than it’s ever been,” said McCallie.

Booth rental proceeds from the arts and craft show in October will also benefit the library. Booths are 10-by-10 feet and are $50 each.
