Free voter ID cards to be provided in Gardendale, Pinson and Warrior
Local residents will soon be able to receive free voter ID cards right in their own neighborhoods.
Secretary of State Jim Bennett and his staff will make mobile site visits to produce voter ID cards.
“Voters can always get a free voter ID at their board of registrars office in their county or in the secretary of state’s office,” said Bennett, according to a press release. “What we are trying to do with these mobile site visits is get to some of the more remote areas of the county to make this process convenient for all voters.”
Voters will be required to have photo identification to cast a ballot in this year’s elections. A driver’s license is sufficient for this requirement, but for those who do not have one, the law passed provides for free ID cards to be given to anyone who needs one.
Registered voters are invited to take part in the mobile site visits. They will be set up at the following locations:
• May 6, 1-4 p.m., Gardendale Civic Center at 857 Main Street
• May 8, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Pinson Public Library at 4410 Main Street
• May 9, 1-4 p.m., Warrior City Council chambers at 215 North Main Street
