Stamp Out event brings in 10,000 lbs of food for Caring for Kids

Around 10,000 pounds of food were donated to the Cullman Caring for Kids Food Bank Saturday during the annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

The food drive, which encouraged local residents to place donations in their mailboxes for pickup by U.S. Postal Service employees, is a national event with the Postal Service and United Way.

Cullman Caring for Kids Executive Director Javon Daniel said the people of Cullman County are always willing to support the food drive, and this year was one of the better ones that he has seen.

“It’s just absolutely incredible,” he said. “This year was a really good year.”

Daniel said the food bank distributes around 10-12 tons of food per month, so the food collected by the Postal Service will go a long way towards helping families in need during the summer.

“This is a big start in helping us into the summer months,” he said.

Daniel also made sure to thank all of the local U.S. Postal Service workers, United Way of Cullman County employees and the people who gave food to help the people of the community.

“We’re just tickled to death to be the recipient,” he said.
