Welcome to Thursday…

Weather: You might get yet, but probably not. Mostly sunny today with a 20 percent chance of scattered showers today and tonight. Highs today in the middle 80s and lows tonight in the middle 60s. Friday will see a slightly higher chance of showers and storms, with highs in the lower 80s.

Warrior man arrested on sex-crimes charges. John Christopher Bauer, 42, was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Marshals and Blount County Sheriff’s deputies and charged with 20 sex-related crimes, including sodomy. This is a developing story; we’ll have more later today.

Negotiations have started. What will likely be a long process began Tuesday, as officials with the new Gardendale City Schools system mt with their counterparts in the Jefferson County Schools to negotiate the separation agreement for the new system. A joint press statement issued Wednesday said that the two superintendents, Craig Pouncey for JefCoEd and Patrick Martin for Gardendale, identified “several substantive issues,” but didn’t go in-depth on any just yet, The statement said that a timetable was set that calls for a final agreement in December.

Sports: Drop the puck! The 2014-15 National Hockey League season faced off for the first time Wednesday night, as the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings raised their championship banner at the Staples Center. That was the only highlight of the night for the Kings, as they lost to San Jose 4-0. Elsewhere, Montreal beat Toronto 4-3, Boston clipped Philadelphia 2-1 and Vancouver dumped Calgary 4-2.
