Relative of murder suspect faces charge

The grandmother of a of the suspect charged in the death of Daniel Ray Osborn II has been charged for allegedly failing to notify authorities that the victim’s body was buried in her yard.

Susan Winton Smith, 65, was charged with first-degree hindering prosecution March 29, according to court documents filed in Cullman County District Court.

The complaint alleges Smith’s grandson, Andrew Maresh, and Tyler Hudson told her on Feb. 3 they had killed Osborn and buried his body in her yard on Cullman County Road 1534.

On March 27, Maresh and Hudson were both charged with murder in Osborn’s death.

The complaint alleges Smith never advised anyone, to include the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office or Hartselle Police Department of the murder or bural of Osborn.

She was released from the Cullman County Detention Center on bond.

Osborn’s body was found buried March 26.
