After DWI arrest, Texas college student rides her Barbie Jeep around campus

In March, 20-year-old college student Tara Monroe was arrested for DWI. Her driver’s license was suspended. Her dad took her car away. But not her sense of humor

Still in need of transportation, and since, as she told MySA.com, “riding a bike around campus really sucks,” the junior in industrial engineering can now be seen cruising the sidewalks of Texas State University in a 12-volt hot pink Barbie Jeep she bought for $60 off Craigslist.

She named it Charlene in honor of its former owner.

Thanks to Monroe’s 5-foot-3 frame, Charlene can go 0 to 5 mph in only a few seconds. And hey, that’s faster than walking.

“It goes pretty fast when it’s just me, so I usually make them (her friends) walk behind me like parents taking their kid out to play,” Monroe said. “I’m just happy everyone thinks this is so hilarious.”

Her tiny set of wheels have garnered stares and social media shares galore.

“Most people don’t find the things me and my friends do very funny, just immature, so I didn’t expect to get this big of a reaction,” she said. “People who don’t know me are shocked, but my friends weren’t even surprised because I do stuff like this all the time.”
