Pinson Valley fills vacant wrestling, softball positions

Pinson Valley High School filled two head coaching positions on Thursday.

Matt Hicks, following his two years of service at Oxford High School, is expected to take over as the Indians’ head wrestling and softball coach. He brings with him four consecutive state wrestling championships (two apiece at Oxford and Leeds). Hicks also captured the first two state duals championships with the Yellow Jackets in 2016 and 2017.

He worked as an assistant softball coach during his stay in Oxford, and is slated to replace Stephanie Graham as Pinson Valley’s head coach this season. Graham led the Indians for one year, finishing one win shy of a Class 6A state tournament bid.

Hicks is expected to join the Pinson Valley football staff as a defensive line coach.
