NJN 2014 All-Star Girls Basketball Team: Cox outshines them all

On a roster loaded with senior leadership, Kristen Cox was the heart and soul of Locust Fork’s girls basketball team.

Cox averaged 11.6 points per game for the Hornets, the only local prep basketball team (boys or girls) to make it into the regional tournament round of the playoffs. Coupled with 2.6 steals and 5.1 rebounds per game, Cox’s all-around excellence has earned her The North Jefferson News 2014 Player of the Year award.

Her stiffest competition for that honor came from her own teammates. Kasi McMillan was a close second, averaging 10.6 rebounds and 9.4 points per contest. And freshman Kim Horton was close behind them with 7.9 points per game.

Cox leads a group of 14 ladies from all eight local schools who have been named to our 2014 All-Star Team. The squad was selected by Associate Editor Robert Carter, with input from local coaches.
