Meteorologists say a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain has spread across central Alabama, rendering Interstates and most other paved roads dangerous and slick.

Bill Murray, a meterologist with ABC 33/40, said there has been a multiple vehicle accident in the Hayden and Corner area on Warrior-Jasper Road. Reports from eyewitnesses also say there has been at least one wreck in Gardendale, on Fieldstown Road. Murray also said Hwy. 31 North near Homewood is closed.

Murray said the heaviest precipitation is now along I-20 in the western Birmingham area.
