Reports of real-life grinches stealing popular Christmas laser lights abound

When it comes to Christmas decorations, the Star Shower Laser Light is the hot item this December—in more ways than one.

The novelty gadgets, which turns your house into a giant, LED snow globe, are being heisted from yards across the country at a headline-making rate.

The “Christmas lights” at the center of that viral photo shaming the person who stole a four-year-old boy’s Christmas decorations? Yep, that’s the Star Shower, which thieves are targeting more than inflatable snowmen and run-of-the-mill twinkle lights due not only to the hefty price tag—some packages run $75—but also the high demand.

Stores can’t keep them on the shelves. Amazon won’t have more until next week. Even the Star Shower website lists several varieties as out of stock.

The result? Some eBay sellers have $50 Star Showers listed for nearly $300, and for some, it may eventually be worth the price, at least if the numbers of auctions “watchers” are any indication.

If you’re one of the lucky Star Shower owners who still has one, you may want to consider outfitting your winter wonderland with surveillance cameras. Because judging by recent reports, the fewer days till Christmas, the greater your risk of being robbed.

According to police, dozens of Star Shower Laser Light displays were stolen last weekend from Krista Moreland’s Peoria, Arizona neighborhood alone.

“In my opinion, they’re selling them, trying to make a quick buck before Christmas and stealing joy from others, which is awful,” Moreland said.

“We had it for three days, projecting on our house and then it was gone.”
