Three men arrested in Locust Fork double homicide
ONEONTA — Three men, including one from Pinson, have been charged with capital murder and several other counts in the deaths of two victims near Locust Fork.
Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey announced in a press conference Tuesday that Michael Cody Dooley, 32, of Remlap; Willliam Lane Bosner, 20, of Cleveland; and Paul Mason Trull, 18 of Pinson, were arrested in connection with the deaths of Gary “Sambo” Hazelrig and Rasha Breann Sherrer.
Dooley, Bosner and Trull are charged with nine counts each, including two counts each of first-degree capital murder during burglary, and two more counts each of first-degree capital murder during robbery. All three are also charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, first-degree motor vehicle theft, plus first- and second-degree theft of property.
Hazelrig and Sherrer were found dead in a home on Deavers Town Road, about two miles northeast of Locust Fork, on Sept. 14. A friend went to check on the pair after not seeing them for several days, found the bodies inside the house and called the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.
An affidavit given by BCSO Investigator Fred Cochran stated that Hazelrig died from gunshot wounds, shotgun wounds and blunt force blows to the head. Sherrer died from gunshot wounds to the head and backside.
Cochran said that Dooley’s girlfriend, Carolyn Busby, told him that Bosner shot both victims in a robbery attempt, “but things just went real wrong.” Busby added that Bosner then asked to be taken to his girlfriend’s house in the Robinwood neighborhood near Center Point.
After another interview with investigators, Dooley admitted to the crimes, and then took deputies to a place in the woods where the weapons had been stashed, along with items stolen from the victims.
Bosner was arrested Tuesday at a home in Birmingham. Trull was bought in early on Tuesday, and after questioning he admitted to his part in the incident, saying that he pointed a shotgun at the victims while they were being robbed. Trull also said that Bosner shot both victims with a rifle.
All three men are currently being held in the Blount County Jail. No bond has been set in the case.
