Murphy’s Oil robber may or may not have been armed
Police are looking for a man that robbed Murphy’s Oil in Fultondale Sunday night.
According to Fultondale Police Detective David Smith, a white male in his late 20s, about six feet tall and weighing 175 pounds, entered the store near closing time and demanded cash. The store’s clerk gave him a small sum from the register; police said they could not reveal the exact amount stolen.
“He acted like he had a gun, but he never actually presented one,” said Smith. He added that it was possible the robber did not actually have a firearm.
Police reports say the man then left on foot, heading towards Burger King.
Police say witness accounts suggest he may have driven away in a car towards Gardendale or Cullman on Interstate 65 North. He said the police did not have an exact vehicle description for release.
“We’re working with surrounding agencies in Cullman and Gardendale and looking at some similar cases in those areas,” said Smith. “We’re also looking at the security video [from Murphy’s Oil] now.” Video footage was not available for public viewing on Tuesday.
Smith said nobody was hurt.
