SBP alumni gather for annual reunion
St. Bernard Preparatory School alumni from across the United States gathered Saturday, June 29, for their annual reunion at the Abbey Byre.
Alumni took advantage of a golf outing, a local shops excursion, an afternoon at Goat Island Brewery and a fish fry.
Saturday commenced with brunch at St. Bernard Dining Hall prepared by the administrative staff. Following brunch, the monks hosted a town hall meeting they discussed the monastery, school and plans for ongoing projects. The presentation was followed with a tour the monastery, guided by Abbot Marcus Voss and Fr. Paschal Pautler, to view the progress of current renovations.
“This was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for me,” Deacon Pete Nassetta said in a press release. “I have been associated with St. Bernard for at least 60 years and have never been inside the cloistered area.”
After a special Saturday Mass, Almni gathered for a BBQ dinner in the Byre.
“My wife and I enjoy coming to Cullman as often as possible,” Jim Flood, who was celebrating his 50th reunion, said. “It is always a pleasure staying on campus and feeling the peace, tranquility and God’s presence. When I was a student here, I couldn’t wait to graduate, but now that I am older, I realize more and more every day, how special Bernard is,” Flood said in a press release.
The reunion concluded Sunday with a breakfast and Mass.
A statement to The Times from SBP read:
“St. Bernard Preparatory School is proud to have hosted such a meaningful and memorable event for its alumni and looks forward to future reunions that continue to celebrate the rich history and enduring spirit of its community.”
