Holiday home tour Dec. 4
The annual AEGIS Christmas Home Tour is around the corner and offers some new features this year.
The Christmas Home Tour is one of the group’s largest annual fundraisers. It showcases tours of local homes that are decorated for the holidays and have open doors to the public for the day of the tour only.
AEGIS, organized in 1974, is a non-profit women’s charity league whose main focus is helping Gardendale public schools through community fund-raisers. Fund-raisers include the home tour, an annual bunko night, paint-your-own-art events, a cookbook and more.
AEGIS awards several college scholarships to graduating seniors every year.
In the past few years, AEGIS has given more than $10,000 to Gardendale schools, according to AEGIS President Mary Jo Bartlett.
The Christmas Home Tour is scheduled for Dec. 4, 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and admit one person; children younger than 10 are not allowed on the tour.
This year’s host homes include:
• Mike and Jan Holmes, 6039 William O Lane
• Aric and Jamie Cassidy, 1705 Quail Ridge Drive
• Scott and Ali Barber, XXX Quail Ridge Drive
New this year is the AEGIS Sweet Shop, located at the Castle Pines Golf Course clubhouse. As the last stop on the tour, attendees will be treated to complimentary seasonal beverages and can purchase sweets donated by local caterers and bakeries.
Also for sale will be custom “team” ceramic ornaments.
Jeff Dennis Jewelers of Gardendale is sponsor for the tour.
Tickets are available at his store and at Iberia Bank in Fultondale, Merle Norman in Gardendale, Beth Slaughter State Farm in Fultondale, from all AEGIS members and at the door of each home on the day of the tour.
Another new AEGIS event for spring 2012 is the Miss Daisy Pageant for girls from 2 years old to high school seniors. The pageant will include a beauty walk, optional side events, an optional talent event and people’s choice awards.
“AEGIS commits to making sure every penny of money raised helps make a difference,” said Bartlett. “The schools greatly need this money and AEGIS loves helping.”
The next Bunko night is Feb. 18 at the Gardendale Civic Center.
This year’s officers are:
• Bartlett, president
• Dawn Grill, vice president
• Jamie Warmack, secretary
• Ashlyn Bagwell, treasurer
• Miki White, chaplain
