Wintzell’s Oyster House to open in Fultondale

The City of Fultondale announced today that they will host a ground breaking ceremony on Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. for Wintzell’s Oyster House. The restaurant will be located on Lowery Parkway across from Ashley Furniture.

Mike Vann, a financial consultant to the city for the shopping center project, said that the negotiations began approximately three years ago to draw Wintzell’s to the area.

“There are over 25 restaurants in Fultondale, along Walker Chapel Road, but none that offered fresh seafood,” Vann said. “It’s different than most seafood restaurants. They serve fresh-from-the-Gulf seafood.”

Wintzell’s Oyster House was founded in 1938 by Oliver Wintzell. There are currently nine locations, including two in Mobile, several in south Alabama, one in Montgomery, Guntersville and Huntsville.

Vann said the restaurant hopes to open in late spring.
