Treadaway makes ‘hard decision’
The Mortimer Jordan girls basketball team will be under new leadership next season.
After five seasons at the helm, former head coach Kelsey Treadaway has decided to step away from her duties on the hardwood, and solely focus on her Blue Devils’ volleyball team next fall. This decision did not come easily for Treadaway, who is no stranger to postseason volleyball runs.
“I don’t feel like (the basketball players) get what they need to get out of preseason because I can hardly be there because of volleyball (playoffs),” said Treadaway.
“It was a really hard decision, but I did it for (the players). They deserve more and they can be so good,” she continued.
Who fills the girls basketball opening?
Kelly Robinson, who led the Brindlee Mountain girls basketball team to the Class 3A final four in his only season as head coach there, confirmed Friday to The Arab Tribune that he is leaving the school to take the same position at Mortimer Jordan, pending approval by the Jefferson County Board of Education.
Robinson spent five years at Mortimer Jordan, including four as the middle school girls coach and one as varsity boys assistant coach, before taking the Brindlee Mountain job last summer. He led the Lions to a 26-8 season and the program’s first trip to the state finals last year.
“I feel like Mortimer Jordan is a really special place and I’m just excited to be back a part of it,” said Robinson, who plans on taking his new team to two or three camps over the summer months.
