Three arrested on embezzlement charges

Three people were arrested Monday on embezzlement charges, according to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The three suspects are accused of embezzling more than $200,000 from a local trucking company through a scheme perpetrated by an employee and two outsiders, the release said.

The investigation was launched in December by the county’s identity theft unit. The trucking company employee, identified as Lori Juleigh Barry, 23, of Hueytown, was allegedly providing account numbers and authorization numbers for electronic funds transfers that were then cashed at local truck stops and check cashing facilities.

The press release said the employee was then able to alter the records to show the funds went to the other employees, instead of the two alleged co-conspirators.

The scheme reportedly lasted for more than six months. None of the funds were recovered because the suspects reportedly spent all the money.

Barry turned herself into the Jefferson County Jail on Jan. 15 and was held on $5,000 bond.

Kimberly Marie Bagley, 22, of Warrior, was arrested in Adamsville and was held on $30,000 bond for embezzling and a failure to appear warrant.

Also arrested was Brian Scott Goodwin, 29, of Graysville. He was held on $30,000 bond.

The press release said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests could be made at a later date.
