New Jordan staidum to face inspection Thursday
Mortimer Jordan’s football team will know next week whether or not they will open their upcoming season in their new stadium.
Building inspectors will give the new facility another look-see on Thursday. If the inspection passes, the new field will see its first game on August 26 against Pinson Valley.
“If not, we’re going to play our first two games here, and we’ll play against Brewer on September 16 in our new place,” Jordan head coach Greg Watts said Thursday during a practice at their old facility, Jimmie Trotter Stadium.
The surfacing of the running track is no longer an issue, as inspectors said that the school could place a mat over the concrete bed of the track until after football ends.
While Trotter Stadium itself is in good enough shape for one or two last hurrahs, the same cannot be said about the remainder of the old school, now under conversion to the Burkett Center. The old parking lot is completely torn up, as is the lot beside the field house. Parking for any games at Trotter will be problematic, with the old band practice field being used instead.
