Cowboy Fair rides into Ag Center Friday, Saturday
Grab your boots and cowboy hats and saddle up because the Cowboy Fair is riding into town today.
Cullman’s Lonesome Dove Cowboy Church is hosting the free event from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center on U.S. 31. Organizers said the goal of the cowboy fair is to expose children, ages 3-17, to the cowboy and rodeo way of life
Activities include simulated team and calf roping, a mechanical bull, face painting, petting zoo and bounce houses. Friday will be set aside for children and youth with special needs, and Saturday will be open for all children.
“No one has to know how to rope or ride a horse,” said Van Johnson with Lonesome Dove Cowboy Church. “We want this to be a community event and reach out to kids who have never been exposed to the cowboy culture.”
The church has been involved in competition and now wants to branch out into more community-oriented events.
“This is the first time we’ve ever done anything like this,” Johnson said. “We want to make it a fair-like atmosphere for the kids to come out and have fun.”
Johnson said the event wouldn’t be possible without the help of local and areas residents. All activities are free, but donations will be accepted too. For more information, call the Ag Center at 256-739-4959.
