Massachusetts trio videotaped themselves trashing police cruisers
LAWRENCE, Mass. — Three men videotaped themselves diving on and damaging brand-new marked cruisers parked outside the Lawrence Police Department, then posted the incriminating video on Facebook, according to police.
“Put them in a coffin!” Efrain “Bebe” Molina, 25, says in the video, which detectives discovered on Facebook as they investigated a recent shooting near Molina’s home, according to a report.
According to knowyourmeme.com, “‘Put ’Em In a Coffin’ is a Vine video fad in which the participant hurls oneself onto the flat surface of an object or fixture, most typically on a crowded table or hood of a car, while facing the opposite direction with both arms crossed.”
Molina’s alleged accomplice and cameraman, Juan “Juanmi” Ayala, 23, declares “War Start!” before Molina and the third man, Jhesy “J Savage” Rodriguez, 19, start diving on the Ford Explorer cruisers parked behind the station, police said.
Friday morning, a combination of local and state police detectives went to arrest the trio on warrants for malicious destruction of property.
But when they went to Rodriguez’s apartment., he came to the door with a .357 Magnum behind his back, police said.
A14-year-old girl also inside the apartment identified herself as Rodriguez’s girlfriend, police said.
Later, detectives, armed with a search warrant, went back to Rodriguez’s apartment and seized a sawed-off shotgun, another .45-caliber handgun, ammunition, a small amount of marijuana and approximately $1,000 cash, acting Police Chief James Fitzpatrick said.
Due to the search warrant, Rodriguez is facing additional illegal firearms charges, including illegal possession of a sawed off shotgun, defacing a firearm (sawed off shotgun), statutory rape and sexual assault, Fitzpatrick said.
Through their investigation, police learned the incriminating video was posted to Facebook on June 4 at 5:33 p.m. Ayala posted the video and then shared it on the social media website with Molina, according to report by Lawrence Detective Kevin Nigohosian.
Nigohosian said he was able to confirm who the men were in the video using Registry of Motor Vehicles documents, Facebook and Lawrence police booking photos.
He noted Ayala “is not observed in the video but you can clearly hear his voice as he announces ‘J Savage’ and declares ‘War Start,'” Nigohosian wrote.
A Police Department memo chronicled the damage to the vehicles’ hoods “and other areas of our new fleet of vehicles that are not consistent with wear and tear or normal damage incurred from other vehicles,” Nigohosian wrote.
Fitzpatrick said at least two cruisers were damaged and will cost roughly $800 each to repair.
“They will have to buff the big dents out and repaint the cruisers,” he said.
