Gardendale residents may soon see changes to their weekly garbage pick-up.

Beginning March 16, Advance Disposal will modify its route days in the city. The change will affect only about 600 out of 4,200 total customers according to Kevin Woods, operations manager for Advance Disposal.

“The reason we’re doing it is to balance the route size, which should be better for our service,” he said.

The growth of the Lexington Park subdivision means Advanced has added Thursday service to about 1,100 homes over the past few years.

Lexington Park will be handled by two trucks on Thursdays, which will allow for quicker pick-up.

“We’re wanting to balance it out on Thursday so we won’t be in the city all day long,” he said. “We want to pick up the garbage and get out of the city.”

Balancing out pick-up loads will also help Advanced save money in terms of fuel and man hours.

Orange door hangers will be hung on the houses which will be affected by the changes with a check mark noting which day of the week a household’s garbage will be picked up.
