Gardendale Police part of credit-card fraud investigation involving Birmingham rapper gang

A months-long investigation into a credit- and debit-card fraud scheme, part of which took place in Gardendale, has resulted in more than 160 felony warrants and a hunt for six suspects.

Gardendale Police have been involved in the investigation since February. Authorities are looking for members of a gangsta-rap group from Birmingham known as the “Hood Dynasty,” which has allegedly been a part of crimes involving cloned credit and debit cards.

According to a press statement from Gardendale Lt. Bryan Lynch, the criminal activity took place all across the United States, but most of it was concentrated along the Interstate 65 corridor from Birmingham to Huntsville. Some incidents occurred in Gardendale. The fraudulent cards were used to purchase gift cards, which in turn were used for the gang’s everyday expenses.

On March 17, search warrants were executed during two raids in Irondale by Gardendale Police and the U.S. Secret Service, with backup from the Irondale Police SWAT team. Those raids led to information that resulted in the issuing of 164 felony warrants on Tuesday against the gang members, all of whom are still at large.

The suspects are:

• Eric Jose Azcona, 27 from Huntsville is charged with 28 fraudulent uses of a credit card, 26 identity thefts, trafficking in stolen identities, and theft of property first degree for a total of 56 felony warrants and a bond of $1,260,000.

• Steven Joseph Azcona, 24, from Irondale is charged with nine fraudulent uses of a credit card, five identity thefts, trafficking in stolen identities, and attempted theft of property first degree total for a total of 15 felony warrants and a bond of $315,000.
