Good Monday morning to you…

Weather: Drying out. The overnight line of thunderstorms has moved out of our area, and skies will clear out as the day moves along with highs in the upper 60s. Lows tonight will be in the middle 40s. Tuesday will bring a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with highs in the lower 70s and lows in the middle 50s.

Gang initiation at Pinson Valley High? An assault on a special-needs student in a restroom at the school last week may have been part of a gang initiation, and now comes word that the suspect was out on bond awaiting trial on sexual-abuse charges. Sylvester Hundley, 18, is in jail after an arrest Friday on charges of assault and compelling street gang membership; he’s accused ot blindfolding the 17-year-old male victim and beating him up, while another student recorded the assault on video with a smart phone. Hundley had just been arrested the week before for first-degree sexual abuse, after an indictment for an incident with a 15-year-old female victim that happened last April. Hundley’s bond on that charge has been revoked.

Sports: Lots o’ softball. Mortimer Jordan’s round-robin softball tournament pitted several local teams against each other, with a grab bag of results. Gardendale lost to the host Blue Devils 13-10, but defeated Pinson Valley 4-2 and Oak Grove 6-4. The Indians knocked off Jordan 7-1… Baseball: Corner ran its winning streal to 10 games, after a pair of wins in a Saturday tri-series. The Jackets defeated host Hokes Bluff 9-2, and toppled Glencoe 11-2. Corner is scheduled to open play today in the annual Mortimer Jordan Spring Break Tournament, facing the Devils at 11 a.m. and Locust Fork at 1:30 p.m., field conditions permitting. Elsewhere, Gardendale suffered its first shutout loss of season on Saturday, a 7-0 loss at the hands of Homewood.
