NJN/am for Wednesday, September 24
Hello, Wednesday…
Weather: Really, really nice. Sunny and warm again today with sunny skies and highs near 80 and nighttime lows in the upper 50s. More of the same on Thursday, though it will be a few degrees warmer.
UPS shooter identified. The man who walked into a customer-service center near the Birmingham Airport, shooting two former co-workers before shooting himself, has unofficially been identified as Kerry Joe Tesney, 45, of Trussville. Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper said that his department received calls at about 9:40 Tuesday morning, and came to find the shooter and two victims dead. Tesney had apparently been fired by UPS the day before, and was wearing his old uniform when he shot the two other victims, neither of whom have had their identities made public.
Sports: Blue Devils stay put. The new Alabama Sports Writers Association football rankings are out, and Mortimer Jordan remains in fourth place in Class 5A after their rout of St. Clair County. The Devils play their homecoming gam Friday, in which they face face winless John Carroll Catholic. Gardendale got a single vote in the 6A poll for the first time this season, while Fultondale continued to attract a handful of votes. Locust Fork and Pinson Valley got no votes after losses last week.
