Mt. Olive Fire District gets better ISO rating
The Mt. Olive Fire District recently received a new fire risk rating from ISO. The fire rating had previously been a 5/9 (a class 5 rating inside 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant and 9 outside of that).
The new rating is 4/4x which reflects the new score, as well as ISO’s new way of listing ratings. The lower rate took effect on Aug. 1. Homeowners may see a lowered home owner’s insurance rate as a result of the new score.
According to a press release from the Mt. Olive Fire District, the department encourages home owners to contact their insurance company to discuss the new fire rating and its impact on insurance rates.
The previous rating had been in place since 1985, when the district was honored by the state legislature achieving that rating faster than any other department in the state.
The Mt. Olive Fire District requested a new inspection in 2014, but disagreed with the results and appealed them. The appeal found that there had been errors made in the inspection process that hurt the rating, and corrected them.
“All of the personnel, volunteer and paid, work very hard day and night to provide the best possible services to the residents within the boundaries of the Mt. Olive Fire District,” Dwight Sloan, president of the board of trustees said in a press release. “This improved rating would be impossible without the hard work of your Mt. Olive Fire District personnel.”
The department is largely volunteer, with eight paid personnel on staff.
“The Mt. Olive Fire District will always continue to strive to protect life, property and work to reduce insurance rates for the property owners, within the boundaries of the Mt. Olive Fire District,” Sloan said.
The ISO results can be found online at www.mtolivefire.org.
“We encourage everyone to review this survey and visit out website regularly for other announcements that will be coming to improve your fire district,” Sloan said in the release.
