Search continues in case of murdered Indiana teens
Police in Indiana have served a search warrant, but have not yet made any arrests in the murder of two teenage girls who disappeared while hiking Monday.
Abigail “Abby” Williams, 13, and Liberty “Libby” German, 14, had been dropped off by a family member around 1 p.m. Monday — the last day of their midwinter break from school — near the Monon High Bridge east of Delphi, Indiana, police said. When the girls didn’t show up later that evening where they had agreed to be picked up, family members contacted police.
The bodies of both girls were found in an area without hiking trails near a creekbank on Wednesday, about half a mile upstream from where they were dropped off.
Since then, the community of fewer than 3,000 about 70 miles northwest of Indianapolis has gone from organizing search parties at a makeshift command center to mourning the loss, and trying to help police find answers.
Carroll County, Indiana Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said the police have received “well over 200 tips” since the investigation began.
“It’s one big puzzle,” he said. “It’s our role to gather up the pieces and put the puzzle back together. This is just a portion of it.”
Officers have served a search warrant at a Delphi home in connection with the killings, but refuting rumors circulating on social media, Leazenby said shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday that the warrant did not result in an arrest or anyone turning themselves in.
“We’re still hoping for that tip or that information we can get to catch this person or persons,” Riley said.
