Cullman City, County schools to remain closed Tuesday due to severe weather
Cullman city and county schools will be closed Tuesday as remnants of Hurricane Irma, now downgraded to a tropical storm, linger across the area.
Both school districts announced classes would not meet Tuesday due to the threat of severe weather. Extracurricular activities have also been cancelled.
A wind advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. with wind speeds increasing up to 35 mph and 40-45 mph in the higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.
These high winds may knock down large branches along with small trees and perhaps some power lines. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, and residents should secure outdoor items, including patio furniture and trash cans.
